Guy Ritchie's Upcoming Action-Thriller 'In The Grey': What to Expect from the Box Office
Guy Ritchie's Latest Venture: 'In The Grey'
Renowned director Guy Ritchie, celebrated for hits like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Sherlock Holmes, Aladdin, and Wrath of Man, is gearing up for the release of his new action-thriller, In The Grey. Although his recent film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, didn't meet box office expectations, excitement is building for this upcoming project, which stars Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026.
According to Box Office Pro, In The Grey is projected to generate between $4 million and $7 million during its opening weekend in North America. Meanwhile, Box Office Theory offers a slightly more optimistic forecast, estimating an opening weekend gross of $6 million to $11 million. To surpass the box office performance of Ritchie's previous film, The Covenant, which also featured Gyllenhaal, In The Grey will need to achieve a global total of at least $21.9 million.
For context, The Covenant debuted with $6.4 million in North America. While this target may appear achievable given the star power of Cavill and Gyllenhaal, In The Grey will face stiff competition from other action films, including Mortal Kombat II, which releases on May 8, and The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to debut on May 22.
Despite these hurdles, there is a strong chance that In The Grey could outpace The Covenant's earnings. The film's plot revolves around a covert team of elite operatives on a daring mission to reclaim a billion-dollar fortune from a merciless dictator. Alongside Gyllenhaal and Cavill, the cast features Eiza González, Kristofer Hivju, Fisher Stevens, and Rosamund Pike.
As the release date draws near, the film industry will be keenly observing In The Grey's box office performance. The true measure of its success will become apparent after its debut on May 15, 2026, as both audiences and critics evaluate Ritchie's latest cinematic offering.
