Bollywood's Surge in Title Registrations Following Operation Sindoor
Since India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam incident last year, Bollywood has been quick to capitalize on the moment. A flurry of producers rushed to register film titles inspired by the military operation, overwhelming industry organizations with their requests. Nearly a year later, over 150 title applications are still pending with the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA), but a resolution is on the horizon.
Update from IMPPA President on Title Applications
Abhay Sinha, the president of IMPPA, shared that the sheer volume of applications has complicated the decision-making process, as reported by ETimes. With more than 150 requests for the title Operation Sindoor and its variations, along with an additional five to seven applications related to the Pahalgam incident, the association decided to delay the matter until a proper meeting could be convened. This meeting is expected to take place next week, where titles will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Studios that have officially announced their projects have been actively following up with the organization, and the upcoming decision is likely to provide clarity for all awaiting news.
Industry insiders are not surprised by the chaos. Former IMPPA president TP Agarwal noted that producers often register titles primarily for the publicity that comes with significant national events. Frequently, especially among smaller regional producers, the goal is not to actually create a film. Some even sell the title to larger producers for recognition.
Notable industry figures, including Aditya Dhar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Vivek Agnihotri, Ashoke Pandit, and major studios like T-Series and Zee Studios, have applied for the title.
This situation is not unprecedented. IMPPA Secretary Anil Nagrath highlighted that a similar rush occurred after the Uri strikes and during the Kedarnath floods.
Current Projects Related to Operation Sindoor
Despite the rush to register titles, only two films connected to Operation Sindoor have been officially announced so far.
The most significant announcement comes from Vivek Agnihotri, who is producing a film in collaboration with T-Series. This project is based on Lt Gen KJS Tiny Dhillon's book, Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India's Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, and the creators have committed to a film grounded in extensive research conducted alongside various branches of the Indian Armed Forces.
The second project, titled The Terror Report, was initially announced as a film covering major terror incidents in India from 1998 to 2025. Sources suggest that the script is currently being revised to avoid overlap with Agnihotri's film, and it remains in the scripting phase with no cast or release date confirmed yet.
