Investigation into Actor's Death Intensifies

The tragic passing of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has prompted the West Bengal government to initiate a CID investigation. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made this announcement in response to ongoing calls from the actor's family, colleagues, and the entertainment sector for a thorough inquiry into the events leading to his death. Initially classified as an unnatural death, this case has garnered significant public interest over recent months. The CID's involvement is anticipated to enhance the investigation, aiming to clarify the timeline of events and resolve outstanding questions.

Statements from the Chief Minister Regarding the Investigation

During an administrative meeting in Digha on June 14, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari confirmed that the investigation into the death of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This decision follows persistent requests from the actor's family and the entertainment community for a detailed examination. Adhikari instructed the Purba Medinipur district police to facilitate the transfer of the case to the CID, stating, “I have directed the Purba Medinipur district police to promptly send the proposal through the DGP to the home secretary for the CID to take over this case.” He also noted that the family had previously filed a case, and the matter was initially recorded as an unnatural death.

Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned a separate investigation initiated by the Odisha government, emphasizing the need for a thorough review of the case. He referenced a recent incident involving another film star's death in Udaipur, which led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Odisha government. “We want to ensure a comprehensive examination of this case,” Adhikari remarked while discussing the CID's involvement.

In conjunction with the CID investigation announcement, the Chief Minister also introduced initiatives aimed at enhancing safety along the state's coastline. Addressing concerns about insufficient lifeguard presence, he stated, “We do not want a recurrence of such a tragic event in the future,” and announced plans to increase the number of lifeguards in Digha and surrounding beach areas. The Contai sub-divisional officer has been assigned to oversee this initiative.

Rahul Banerjee tragically passed away on March 29 while filming the Bengali television series Bholebaba Paar Karega near the Odisha-West Bengal border. His untimely death has raised significant concerns within the Tollywood film community, prompting many industry members and family members to call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
