Chief Minister Plans Grand Holi Celebration in Assam
Cultural Aspirations and Political Developments
Guwahati, March 4: Following the success of record-setting Bihu and Jhumoir events in recent years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans for a large-scale Holi song presentation aimed at achieving another cultural milestone in Assam.
During his visit to the historic Barpeta Satra for Holi celebrations, Sarma revealed that he had initially intended to host the event this year but postponed it due to the upcoming election schedule.
“I had been considering this event for this year, but with the elections approaching, I thought it would be inappropriate. We will aim to organize it next year,” he stated.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for being able to visit Barpeta Satra during Holi.
“Every year, I look forward to coming to Barpeta Satra for Holi. Today, I am fortunate to have prayed at the shrines of Koila Baba and Doul Govinda. I wish for the prosperity and well-being of Assam's people,” he remarked.
On the political front, Sarma discussed ongoing alliance negotiations with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), indicating that discussions are nearing completion with an announcement expected in the next few days.
“We are convening a meeting of the State Election Committee today. We have already formed an alliance with the Rabha Joutha Sangram Samiti, and we anticipate finalizing an alliance with the Bodoland People's Front today as well. The AGP alliance will be concluded in two to three days,” he noted.
Sarma confirmed that seat-sharing arrangements with AGP are assured, emphasizing that decisions will be made to uphold the interests and respect of both AGP and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“We will determine the seats in a manner that ensures victory while maintaining mutual respect. If feasible, we hope to finalize everything by tonight,” he added.
This visit highlighted both the cultural ambitions and the current political landscape, with the Chief Minister outlining future plans for Holi while signaling that alliance decisions are imminent.
