Chandu Salimkumar Expresses Disappointment Over National Film Awards Snub
Chandu Salimkumar's Reaction to Manjummel Boys' Exclusion
Several anticipated films set for release in 2024, including Maidaan, Laapataa Ladies, Aavesham, and Manjummel Boys, were notably absent from the nominations at the 72nd National Film Awards. Chandu Salimkumar, a prominent actor from the critically acclaimed survival thriller Manjummel Boys, took to social media to share his thoughts regarding the nominations. He expressed his belief that while many average films received recognition, superior works were overlooked. Although he refrained from directly naming any films, he emphasized that history would ultimately judge based on what was presented on screen.
Chandu Salimkumar's Insights on the Awards
On his Instagram account, the actor, known for his role in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, expressed disappointment over the exclusion of numerous deserving films from the 2024 lineup, without specifically mentioning Manjummel Boys. He envisioned a future scenario where a young viewer in 2050 reflects on the history of cinema while reviewing the list of National Film Award winners. Chandu remarked, "They won't be aware of the political landscape or who was in power; their judgment will be based solely on what they observe on screen."
He further elaborated, stating, "If they discover that many mediocre films were celebrated while exceptional ones were disregarded, they will naturally question the reasoning behind it. If the prevailing explanation is that awards were swayed by connections to the ruling party rather than genuine talent, that will be the legacy remembered by history." Chandu concluded his post by pondering that while trophies may endure, so will the inquiries regarding their legitimacy.
Additionally, Chandu congratulated the esteemed actor Mammootty, who secured his fourth National Award this year for Best Actor for his role in Bramayugam. He shared on his Instagram Stories, "Imagine the prestige of winning a National Award when it is presented to friends and family of the ruling party, yet your performance stands out as the best in the nation."
