BTS's Triumphant Return

After completing their mandatory military service, BTS, the global sensation, has made a spectacular return with their new album, ARIRANG. This album has already shattered multiple records and set new benchmarks in the music industry. The group held a comeback event titled BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG on March 21, 2026, which featured a historic live-streamed performance at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. This event celebrated their tenth studio album, Arirang, and was also streamed live on Netflix. Following this, they performed at the BTS World Tour Arirang at Goyang Stadium on April 9, 11, and 12, 2026.

Shortly after these performances, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), along with the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute and the Korea Tourism Organization, reported that international ARMYs who traveled to Korea for BTS's comeback shows extended their stays and spent more than typical foreign tourists, highlighting the group's significant global influence.

BTS's Global Influence on Tourism

BTS ARIRANG Global Impact

The MCST, in partnership with the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute and the Korea Tourism Organization, has shared insights regarding the overseas ARMYs who visited South Korea for BTS's comeback events and the 2026 concert series. According to the findings, international fans who specifically traveled to attend BTS’s comeback show at Gwanghwamun Plaza exhibited significantly higher engagement with Korea’s tourism offerings compared to average international visitors.

These fans stayed in South Korea for an average of 8.7 days, which is notably longer than the 6.1-day average for general overseas tourists recorded in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, their spending was considerably higher, averaging 3.53 million Korean won (approximately 2,400 US dollars) per person, which is about 1.08 million Korean won more than what the average foreign tourist spends. Furthermore, ARMYs attending the three-day opening performances of BTS’s 2026 world tour also demonstrated strong tourism engagement, remaining in Korea for an average of 7.4 days and spending around 2.91 million KRW (about 2,000 USD) during their visit. The reports indicated that over this three-day period, the city welcomed 48,581 additional visitors, with overseas credit card spending reaching 337.8 million KRW (approximately 230,000 USD).
