BTS Achieves Record-Breaking Success with New Album ARIRANG
BTS Dominates the Billboard 200
The global sensation BTS has once again showcased their unparalleled influence on music charts with the release of their latest album, ARIRANG. This album has made a remarkable debut at the top of the Billboard 200, marking the group's seventh album to achieve this feat. In its opening week, ARIRANG amassed over 641,000 equivalent album units, further solidifying BTS's legacy on the Billboard charts and setting a new record for male bands in recent years. The impressive sales figures reflect the band's growing global impact, especially following their much-anticipated reunion after military service.
BTS's Billboard 200 Triumph
The album's record-setting debut includes an astounding 532,000 pure album sales, making it one of the strongest sales weeks in contemporary music history. The last time such impressive numbers were recorded was with Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, which debuted with over four million units last year. In terms of pure sales, ARIRANG has achieved the highest week since Swift's major release.
Interestingly, the last group to surpass such sales was One Direction with their 2013 album Midnight Memories, which sold 547,000 copies in its debut week. BTS's ARIRANG has comfortably exceeded that figure, establishing a new standard for male groups in over a decade. A significant factor in this success has been vinyl sales, with the album selling an impressive 208,000 copies across 17 different variants, placing ARIRANG among the top six biggest vinyl sales weeks in modern history, a list largely dominated by Taylor Swift.ARIRANG's Success in Korea
On the Korean music charts, ARIRANG has also achieved historic sales figures. According to Hanteo Chart, the album sold an astonishing 4,169,464 copies in its first week, marking BTS's highest-ever opening. This surpasses their previous record with Map of the Soul: 7, which sold approximately 3.37 million copies in its debut week.
Despite this monumental achievement, BTS narrowly missed out on becoming the highest first-week seller in K-pop history, falling just short of a couple of other leading groups. With ARIRANG, BTS has not only reclaimed their position at the top but has also rewritten several records, demonstrating their ongoing influence in the music industry.
