Court Decision on 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai'

The production team behind Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai received a significant boost as the Bombay High Court declined to halt its release. Puja Films had urgently petitioned the court to prevent the romantic comedy from debuting on June 5, citing ongoing copyright disputes concerning the songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai. Justice Farhan P Dubash did not grant immediate relief to the production house owned by Vashu Bhagnani. Advocate Neha Bhavsar represented Puja Entertainment, while Senior Advocate Ravi Kadam and his team defended Tips.

Relief Granted by Bombay High Court

As reported by Bar And Bench, Justice Dubash expressed that the court was not inclined to consider Puja Entertainment's urgent request regarding Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and the disputed songs from Biwi No 1. The next court session is set for June 8.

Legal Battle Between Puja Entertainment and HJTIHH Makers

Puja Entertainment and Tips have been embroiled in a legal conflict for several months. Puja Entertainment accused the production house founded by Ramesh Taurani of violating copyright laws, seeking damages of approximately Rs 400 crore along with extensive injunctive relief. The songs in question were originally part of Biwi No 1, featuring stars like Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Karisma Kapoor. During the recent hearing, Justice Dubash highlighted that Puja Entertainment had previously filed a plea in a Bihar civil court in April 2026 for similar relief. The Bihar court had issued an urgent ‘status quo’ order, which was later upheld by the Patna High Court. However, the Supreme Court stayed this order on May 22. Justice Dubash noted that Puja Entertainment sought to withdraw the Bihar case, intending to approach the Bombay High Court instead, but no orders had been made on that request. Tips contended that this constituted forum shopping, emphasizing that there was no justification for the delay in approaching the Bombay High Court, especially since Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was scheduled for a June 2026 release.

Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai features a star-studded cast including Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde, Mouni Roy, and Chunky Panday, among others.
