Bollywood Celebrities Unite in Support of Protests

The protests in India, particularly those related to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), are gaining traction, with numerous Bollywood figures stepping forward to show their support. Recently, actress Sonakshi Sinha took to Instagram to share a story featuring a large gathering at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators waved Indian flags and cheered in unity. Her post, adorned with four red heart emojis, has been interpreted as a sign of solidarity with the protesters.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also participated in the protests, standing with those calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. During a media interaction, Azmi disclosed that she and lyricist Javed Akhtar had reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a conversation to address the ongoing issues. She noted that they have yet to receive a reply, stating, "I only speak up when things have gone too far. I don’t comment on every little thing; after all, I am 75 years old and have seen it all." Azmi further clarified that their intention is not to escalate the situation publicly but to be acknowledged as former Rajya Sabha members.

In a touching moment that has since gone viral, Azmi was seen standing silently with protesters as they resumed their sit-in ahead of the Parliament march. She was also captured kissing the hand of a woman on a hunger strike, underscoring the emotional gravity of the situation. Actress Vidya Malavade has also joined the chorus of supporters, expressing her concerns regarding climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike since June 28 and was reportedly taken away by police from the protest site to Safdarjung Hospital.

In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, Malavade conveyed her sorrow over the current circumstances in the country, stating, "It’s not just frustrating but also very scary." She commended the dignity and grace exhibited by the protesters, questioning why the voices of the protesting students have not been acknowledged. Malavade concluded her message with a plea for dialogue and justice, reaffirming her support for the students and their right to peacefully protest against injustices. As the Parliament march progresses, more public figures are adding their voices to the movement, ensuring that the ongoing protests remain in the public eye.
