Billie Eilish's Concert Film Set for Indian Theatrical Release
Billie Eilish Collaborates with James Cameron for Concert Film
Grammy and Oscar-winning artist Billie Eilish has joined forces with renowned filmmaker James Cameron for her new concert film, Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. This film is set to hit Indian theaters on May 15, following some necessary edits. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved the film after specific modifications were made, including the removal of a song sequence. Initially scheduled for release on May 8, the date was postponed by a week due to delays in censorship. More details are provided below!
CBFC Mandates Edits for Billie Eilish's Concert Film
As reported by a media outlet, the CBFC requested several cuts before granting the film a U/A 13+ rating earlier this week. The board insisted that all profanities be altered. A scene featuring a crude gesture by a skeleton was substituted with a different visual of a girl on a rope. The most notable edit involved the removal of a song sequence that lasted 2 minutes and 22 seconds.
Globally, Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour has a runtime of 114 minutes. However, the Indian version runs for 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 8 seconds after the edits. The concert film has grossed approximately $8 million in North America and $13 million internationally, bringing its total earnings to $21 million worldwide.
Insights into Billie Eilish's Concert Tour Film
Eilish co-directed the film with Oscar-winning director James Cameron. It will be available in both 3D and IMAX formats. The film showcases Billie and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, during their sold-out world tour. Cameron and O’Connell also appear in the film, providing guidance to the singer throughout the tour.
Previously, Eilish's concert film Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles was directed by Robert Rodriguez and Patrick Osborne and released in 2021. Another film, Billie Eilish: Live at the O2, was directed by Sam Wrench in 2023. Cameron revealed in an interview that he approached Billie about filming the concert in 3D after discussing food preferences and sustainability with her mother, Maggie Baird. Although Billie initially declined, she later agreed after hearing Cameron's vision for the 3D filming.
