Grammy and Oscar-winning artist Billie Eilish has joined forces with renowned director James Cameron for the debut of her latest concert film, Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. The film is scheduled to be released in Indian theaters on May 15, following some necessary edits. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved the film after modifications, which included the removal of a specific song segment. Originally set for May 8, the release was postponed by a week due to censorship concerns. More details are provided below!
CBFC Requires Edits for Eilish's Concert Film
According to reports from Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC mandated several edits and subsequently awarded the film a U/A 13+ rating earlier this week. The board insisted on the removal of all explicit language from the film. Additionally, a scene featuring an inappropriate gesture by a skeleton was replaced with a different scene of a girl on a rope. The most significant edit involved the removal of a song segment that lasted 2 minutes and 22 seconds.
On a global scale, Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour has a total runtime of 114 minutes. In India, the film's duration is 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 8 seconds after the edits. The concert film has generated approximately $8 million in North America and $13 million internationally, totaling around $21 million in earnings.
Insights into Billie Eilish’s Concert Film
Eilish co-directed the film alongside Oscar winner James Cameron. The concert film will be available in both 3D and IMAX formats, featuring Billie and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, during their sold-out world tour. Cameron and O’Connell also make appearances in the film, offering support to the singer throughout her tour.
Previously, Eilish's concert film, Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, was directed by Robert Rodriguez and Patrick Osborne and released in 2021. Another film, Billie Eilish: Live at the O2, directed by Sam Wrench, was released in 2023. Cameron revealed in an interview that he initially approached Billie about filming the concert in 3D after discussing food preferences and sustainability with her mother, Maggie Baird. Although Billie initially declined, she later reconsidered after hearing Cameron's vision for the 3D filming.
