Renowned filmmaker Bharathiraja recently enjoyed watching the film Thaai Kizhavi, featuring Radikaa Sarathkumar, as he recuperates from a serious illness. He expressed his admiration for her performance, stating it was worthy of a National Award. This touching moment marked a reunion between mentor and protégé, as Radikaa's acting career began under Bharathiraja’s mentorship decades ago. The film, which debuted in February, continues to receive accolades following its release on OTT platforms. It was also praised by Kamal Haasan upon its theatrical release.


Bharathiraja's Emotional Viewing Experience


The esteemed director made it a point to watch the film after Radikaa personally visited him, creating a memorable and emotional experience for both. After viewing the film, Bharathiraja was effusive in his praise for Radikaa Sarathkumar’s acting. In a video shared on Radikaa's Instagram, he described her performance as deserving of a National Award.



The bond between Bharathiraja and Radikaa Sarathkumar dates back to her debut in his 1987 film Kizhakke Pogum Rail, which played a significant role in establishing her career. Over the years, their relationship has transformed from that of director and actor to mentor and mentee. Radikaa has frequently acknowledged Bharathiraja's influence in shaping her career and helping her discover her identity as an actress.



Radikaa expressed her joy at seeing her mentor well enough to watch her latest film. She shared her concern during his illness and felt relieved to see him recovering. She attributes her success and foundational acting skills to Bharathiraja. Following a health scare on December 27, Bharathiraja was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai due to respiratory issues, including wheezing, but was discharged a few weeks later. Tragically, Bharathiraja's son, Manoj, passed away from a cardiac arrest at the young age of 48 in 2025.

Produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan under Sivakarthikeyan Productions in collaboration with Sudhan Sundaram’s Passion Studios, the film was released in February, receiving both critical and commercial acclaim. It began streaming on JioHotstar on April 10 after a successful run in theaters.
