Ben Affleck's Trivia Challenge on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
In a recent episode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," Ben Affleck displayed his trivia skills alongside Jamie Ding, a champion from "Jeopardy!" Their goal was to win a staggering USD 1 million for a charity of Affleck's choice. During the show, Affleck openly shared how his close friend Matt Damon had played a role in his preparation for one of the tricky questions posed by host Jimmy Kimmel.
Competing against comedian Larry David and his daughter Cazzie, Affleck and Ding made significant progress, reaching the USD 250,000 question. Kimmel quizzed them, asking, “During the annual Spanish festival El Colacho, men dressed in devil costumes run and jump over what?” Affleck admitted that Damon's previous participation on the show inspired him to brush up on relevant trivia, stating, “When Matt was on this show, I thought, ‘I could answer that question,’ trying to ease my insecurity.”
He elaborated on how he took the initiative to learn about Spanish customs and festivals, motivated by Damon's experience. Affleck humorously noted, “I mentioned I speak Spanish and know a bit about the Spanish-speaking world, and I thought, ‘Oh God, that would’ve been embarrassing.’ So, I googled these customs, and this was one of them.” He ended his comments with a playful nod to Damon, saying, “This is a tip to Matt Damon. Thank you, Matt,” which elicited a chuckle from Kimmel about possibly cutting that part from the final edit.
Throughout the game, Affleck also tackled questions about a popular fast food chain and one of its items, admitting to being a frequent customer. Despite their best efforts, the duo missed that question and had to use one of their lifelines to stay in the game.
