Born on October 10, 1969, in Chittattukara, Ernakulam, Salim Kumar was the son of Gangadharan and Kausalya. He pursued higher education at SNM College, Malyankara, and later attended Maharaja’s College to fulfill his aspiration of becoming an actor. His talent for mimicry was evident from his school days, and he won multiple awards at the MG University Art Festival.


In 1996, he married Sunitha, and on the same day, he received his first film offer. He made his acting debut in Ishtamanu Nooru Vattam, but it was the film Thenkasipattanam that truly launched his career. Over the years, he appeared in numerous Malayalam and Tamil films, including Kalyanaraman, CID Moosa, Mayavi, and Meesha Madhavan. Salim Kumar also directed films such as Compartment and Daivame Kaithozham K Kumarakanam, collaborating with many notable actors. His fans are now expressing their grief on social media.
