Avengers: Endgame Reclaims Box Office Crown from Avatar with Re-Release
Avengers: Endgame Takes the Lead Again
In a stunning turn of events, Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed its position as the highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Avatar once again following its recent re-release in theaters. This rivalry between the two cinematic giants has captivated audiences, with both films consistently drawing viewers back to the big screen.
The superhero epic, released in 2019, has now amassed a staggering USD 2.925 billion globally, edging out Avatar, which has earned USD 2.923 billion since its debut in 2009, as reported by a leading media outlet.
For a decade, Avatar held the top position until Endgame took over in 2019. However, in 2021, Endgame fell to second place when Avatar returned to theaters ahead of the release of Avatar: The Way of Water.
Disney has strategically re-released Endgame in anticipation of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced varied success since the pandemic, but fans are optimistic that Doomsday, which brings back beloved characters for another epic adventure and features Robert Downey Jr. as the villain Doctor Doom, will mark a revitalizing chapter for the franchise.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters in December.
