Rador Pakhi Receives Jury Special Mention at Moscow Festival

Guwahati, July 21: The renowned filmmaker from Assam, Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, has achieved a significant milestone as her Assamese feature film, Rador Pakhi (Morning Sunshine), was awarded the Jury Special Mention -- Super Mama Award at the International Film Festival Made by Women held in Moscow.
This film was part of the festival's Competition Section, which took place in the Russian capital from July 8 to 12.
Rador Pakhi draws inspiration from the true story of writer Sarmistha Pritam, depicting the journey of Jyoti, an aspiring writer from Assam diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age. The film poignantly explores Jyoti's struggle to maintain her independence and pursue her dreams despite facing significant physical challenges.
Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah expressed her joy regarding this recognition, calling it a proud moment for her entire team. She stated, "This journey has become even more significant with our film receiving the Jury Special Mention – Super Mama Award. Being recognized on an international stage is a true honor for all of us."
She dedicated the award to the cast and crew, acknowledging their dedication in bringing the story to life. "This recognition is for every member of our remarkable cast and crew, whose dedication and effort made this film a reality. I also extend my gratitude to our friends and supporters whose love and encouragement have been invaluable throughout this journey," she added.
The director noted that this latest accolade would motivate the team to keep producing impactful cinema that resonates with diverse audiences. "This honor encourages us to continue sharing stories that connect with hearts and cross cultural boundaries," she remarked.
Prior to its recognition in Moscow, Rador Pakhi had already made a notable impact on the international film festival circuit.
The film was featured at the NFDC Film Bazaar Co-Production Market and premiered in the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2024.
It has also been showcased in various prestigious festivals, including the Asian Spectrum section of the 21st Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai, the 23rd Pune International Film Festival, the Indian Competition section of the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the 20th International Film Festival of Thrissur, and the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada.
Produced by Basanta Kumar Baruah, Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, and Sulakhyana Baruah, the film features notable performances by Sulakhyana Baruah, Kamal Lochan, Arun Nath, and Bina Patangia. This latest recognition further enhances Rador Pakhi's international journey and elevates the profile of Assamese cinema and storytelling from Northeast India.
