Anupam Kher Conquers 35-Foot Rock Climbing Wall at 71

Mumbai, Oct 1: Renowned actor Anupam Kher recently faced a 35-foot indoor rock-climbing wall located in a mall in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In a post on Instagram, the 71-year-old shared his initial hesitations about attempting the climb after observing others struggle to reach the summit. However, with encouragement from his instructor, he decided to take on the challenge. Kher reflected on how this experience brought back memories of his childhood in Shimla, where he often climbed hills.
In his video, the actor from ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ expressed, “Triumph of Human Spirit! Often, when confronted with a challenge, we prematurely conclude what we cannot achieve before even attempting it. Today, at a mall in Raleigh, I stood before a daunting 35-foot indoor rock climbing wall. I watched many attempt the climb, with most unable to reach the top! When Herman urged me to try, I hesitated. Then I recalled the boy who grew up scaling hills in Shimla. I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot? I may be 71, but that shouldn’t stop me!’”
“Being secured by a harness didn’t eliminate the effort or the uncertainty. I had to make each move independently, relying solely on my hands and feet! Gazing at the top was one thing; navigating my way there, one hold at a time, was quite another. Upon reaching the summit, I experienced an incredible sense of accomplishment. I had allowed myself the opportunity to discover my capabilities. That’s what I call the triumph of the human spirit!”
Kher further remarked, “The human mind and spirit possess potential that doubt can hinder us from exploring. While belief doesn’t simplify the climb, it can provide the courage to start and persevere through difficulties. Today, at 71, I descended from that wall with renewed faith in myself and my abilities. We owe it to ourselves to take that chance.”
The video captures Kher as he tackles the challenging rock-climbing wall, skillfully using his hands and feet to grip the holds. Dressed casually and secured with a harness, he is seen carefully ascending the 35-foot wall before triumphantly reaching the top.
