Anne Hathaway and Adam Driver Star in Ron Howard's War Drama 'Alone at Dawn'
Hollywood Stars Unite for a Compelling War Story
On October 4, in Los Angeles, it was announced that renowned actors Anne Hathaway and Adam Driver will collaborate in Ron Howard's upcoming film, 'Alone at Dawn'.
This war drama is based on the real-life events surrounding Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman, portrayed by Driver, and an intelligence officer played by Hathaway, who fought for his Medal of Honor recognition, according to reports from a media outlet.
The film draws inspiration from the 2019 book authored by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz, who is Chapman’s sister.
According to the book's publisher, Grand Central Publishing, the narrative unfolds during the early hours of March 4, 2002, in eastern Afghanistan, where a fierce confrontation took place. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda forces, Chapman and a small group of Navy SEALs attempted to seize a mountain summit in a desperate effort to rescue a lost comrade. Chapman, who led the charge, sustained severe injuries during the initial attack. His SEAL commander, believing him to be dead, ordered a retreat. However, Chapman regained consciousness alone, surrounded by enemies.
The description continues, highlighting Chapman's extraordinary bravery as he saved his SEAL teammates and, despite being mortally wounded, engaged in combat against two dozen enemy fighters to protect an incoming rescue team. His actions posthumously earned him the Medal of Honor, making him the first airman in nearly fifty years to receive this prestigious award reserved for America's bravest.
As reported, the script has been adapted by Michael Russell Gunn, known for his work on 'Designated Survivor', with Erin Cressida Wilson contributing to the rewrites. Amy Herzog has also played a role in the script's development, while Schilling, a former combat control technician, serves as a military consultant.
