Ananya Panday's Chand Mera Dil Faces Mixed Reviews from Audiences
Chand Mera Dil: A Mixed Reception
The film Chand Mera Dil, featuring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, has garnered a blend of reviews from both critics and viewers. Directed by Vivek Soni, the movie has not performed strongly at the box office. Following the release of its teaser and trailer, some social media users have drawn parallels between Chand Mera Dil and Saiyaara, a romantic musical directed by Mohit Suri that starred Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. In a recent exclusive interview with a media outlet, actress Charu Shankar, who portrays Ananya's mother in the film, shared her thoughts on this comparison.
Charu Shankar Discusses the Comparison
When asked about the similarities between Chand Mera Dil and Saiyaara, Charu remarked, "Both films delve into themes of youthful love. However, I believe CMD quickly transitions into more complex emotional landscapes." She emphasized that Chand Mera Dil not only focuses on romance but also addresses the darker aspects of love, such as resentment, guilt, and heartbreak. Charu noted that her character, Nivedita, perceives the potential dangers of young love much earlier than Ananya and Lakshya's characters, Chandni and Aarav. "She consistently cautions them about their youth and the long-term implications of their decisions, and as the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that her warnings were justified. What I appreciate about the film is that resolution is not easily achieved; it comes through growth, time, and the emotional lessons that life imparts," she explained.
Charu Shankar's Connection to Chand Mera Dil
Furthering the discussion, Charu revealed that Chand Mera Dil holds a special place in her heart because she chose to explore her character through the art of Bharatanatyam. "I aimed to embody my character not just as a dancer but to truly reflect her essence—her posture, gaze, and even her silence should convey a lifetime of classical dance experience. I trained for months with Suhail Bhan, a Bharatanatyam instructor, learning mudras, abhinaya, nattuvangam, and jatis in Adi Taalam, even how to conduct a Bharatanatyam class, as I wanted the dance to be an intrinsic part of Nivedita," she shared. Charu also mentioned that both she and Ananya were deeply invested in this process and formed a strong bond over it.
