The tragic stampede occurred on December 4, 2024, when a large crowd gathered outside Sandhya Theatre for the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, hoping to see Allu Arjun. The incident resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman named Revathi, while her nine-year-old son, Sritej, suffered severe injuries due to lack of oxygen. Revathi and her family attended the screening as Sritej was a devoted fan of the actor.

Sritej was placed on ventilator support in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for over four months before being discharged on April 29, 2025. He was subsequently moved to a neuro-rehabilitation center in Hyderabad for ongoing treatment. Following the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13, 2024, but was granted four weeks of interim bail by the Telangana High Court on the same day. The Nampally Court later provided him with regular bail, requiring him to submit two sureties of Rs 50,000 each and to cooperate with the investigation.
