The second civil investiture ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026 took place on June 23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu presented the remaining awards for this year, recognizing notable contributions across various fields. Among the honorees was renowned Indian singer Alka Yagnik, who received the esteemed Padma Bhushan award for her significant impact on the Indian music scene. Dressed in traditional attire, Alka attended the ceremony and was honored in front of dignitaries and fellow awardees. A touching moment occurred when she sought the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by touching his feet before receiving her award. With a career spanning 46 years, Alka has been a prominent playback singer since the 90s and early 2000s.

At the ceremony, Alka Yagnik arrived wearing a cream-colored dress. Upon hearing her name, she approached PM Narendra Modi to seek his blessings before being awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President. The National Award-winning artist appeared to need assistance from a volunteer, as she seemed frail. In 2024, Alka was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss, which led her to step back from the public eye. The Padma Awards 2026 ceremony also honored other notable figures in Indian cinema, including Mammootty, R Madhavan, and Gadde Rajendra Prasad for their exceptional contributions. Additionally, the late Satish Shah was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri, with his wife Madhu Shah accepting the honor on his behalf.

About Alka Yagnik

Alka Yagnik began her playback singing career in the 1980s with the film Payal Ki Jhankaar. At just 14 years old, she recorded her first song, Thirkat Aang Lachki Jhuki. Her rise to fame began in 1981 with the hit song, Mere Angane Mein, from the film Lawaaris. However, it was her performance of the iconic Ek Do Teen in 1988 that truly catapulted her into the limelight, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer Female in 1989. Alka has since become one of the most celebrated playback singers of the 90s, sharing the record for the most Filmfare Awards for Best Playback Singer Female with the legendary Asha Bhosle. She has also received two National Awards for Best Singer. On a personal note, Alka married Neeraj Kapoor, a businessman from Shillong, in 1989, and they have a daughter named Syesha.
