Actress Akshaya Hariharan's Disturbing Voting Experience

In a startling revelation, actress Akshaya Hariharan disclosed that her vote was cast by someone else during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026. She shared her distressing experience through a video and subsequently filed an official complaint after casting a provisional vote. Akshaya urged her followers to raise awareness and ensure they vote to counteract fraudulent ballots. Her situation underscores the challenges many voters encounter at polling stations. Previously, Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee reported that her name was absent from the voter list for the West Bengal elections in 2026.

Akshaya Hariharan's Polling Booth Incident

On X (formerly Twitter), Akshaya initially revealed that someone impersonated her to vote, claiming to be a 24-year-old and using a fingerprint. She later posted a video detailing her ordeal, explaining that she is from Velachery, Tamil Nadu, and had not received her voting slip. Despite this, she knew her polling location and went to Adiyar, where she discovered that her vote had already been cast.

She alleged that another woman's photo was used, who also claimed to be 24, and a fingerprint was placed on it. Although the names matched, the photographs did not. Akshaya called on the authorities to investigate thoroughly, asserting that it was unacceptable for someone else to vote in her name.

Subsequent Developments

After a lengthy wait, Akshaya managed to cast her tender ballot, but she expressed uncertainty about the process. She felt uncomfortable as the ballot paper was not sealed in her presence. In her video, she questioned, "How can such things happen in the first place? No one could answer my inquiries."

Although some lawyers reached out to her later, Akshaya stated she would file a complaint at the nearest Returning Officer's office. They assured her that her tendered vote would be handled "sealed and safe." On Instagram, she added, "This is the best I could do though. Please don't waste your vote. You still have time."
