Akshay Kumar Lauds Dhurandhar

During his appearance at the India Today Conclave 2026, Akshay Kumar praised Dhurandhar as a significant revival of high-octane action films in Bollywood. Directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh, the film has become the highest-grossing movie in Hindi cinema history. Kumar noted that audiences have responded enthusiastically to the film's intense action sequences and compelling narrative. He characterized Singh's role as a powerful, angry young man, resonating well with viewers.

He pointed out that this genre had seen a decline in recent years, with films focusing on social themes gaining traction. Kumar himself starred in socially relevant films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pad Man, which were well-received. He emphasized that audience preferences evolve, with some periods favoring meaningful narratives while others lean towards grand action spectacles. He likened this trend to culinary choices, where people enjoy a variety of cuisines rather than sticking to one.

When asked if he regretted not being involved in a blockbuster like Dhurandhar, Akshay Kumar acknowledged that actors often admire the performances of their peers and might think they could have portrayed those roles. However, he emphasized that jealousy is absent among actors. He mentioned that he frequently meets Ranveer Singh, and they mutually appreciate each other's work, which is a common practice in the industry.

Kumar explained that with numerous actors and films produced each year, there are ample opportunities for everyone to land significant roles. While an actor might briefly consider how interesting a particular film could have been, such thoughts do not lead to regret or rivalry. In the meantime, Akshay is gearing up for the release of his upcoming horror-comedy film, Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, which is set to premiere on April 10.
