Adivi Sesh's *Dacoit* Explores New Storytelling Horizons
Adivi Sesh's New Film *Dacoit*
Adivi Sesh is in the spotlight with his latest film, *Dacoit*. Not only does he star in the lead role, but he has also penned the screenplay. Recently, he shared how a film featuring Akshay Kumar reshaped his views on Hindi storytelling, particularly in relation to *Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha*.
Setting Inspired by Cowboy Westerns
**Adivi's Vision for the Film's Landscape**
In an interview with a Media Channel, Adivi Sesh elaborated on the film's unique setting along the Andhra-Karnataka border. He emphasized that this choice was intentional, aiming to capture the essence of a South Indian 'Cowboy Western' aesthetic.
He mentioned that after viewing Akshay Kumar’s *Pad Man* and understanding its real-life inspiration, he began to reconsider how regional narratives could be effectively shared with a broader audience. He stated, "We envisioned a backdrop reminiscent of a Cowboy Western film. While it’s a South Indian tale, we aimed to present it in Hindi."
Influence of *Pad Man* on Adivi's Approach
**A New Perspective on Storytelling**
Adivi further discussed how *Pad Man* impacted his creative direction: "I was truly inspired by Akshay Kumar’s *Pad Man*. Learning about its true story made me realize it originated from Tamil culture. This led me to ponder: why not narrate our own stories in Hindi, allowing us to connect directly with the audience?"
Instead of shifting the narrative to a more conventional Hindi-speaking area, the filmmakers chose to maintain the authentic South Indian setting while making the story accessible in Hindi. The characters are depicted as Hindi speakers within this context, seamlessly integrating into the narrative.
A Broader Shift in Indian Cinema
This approach reflects a significant transformation in Indian cinema, where linguistic barriers are becoming less rigid, allowing stories to traverse regional boundaries more fluidly than ever before. *Dakait* is currently screening in theaters, directed by Shanil Deo. Despite facing competition from *Dhurandhar 2*, the film is not making a substantial impact in the Hindi market, although the Telugu version continues to perform well. Alongside Adivi Sesh, the film stars Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap, with Prakash Raj and Atul Kulkarni in key roles.
