Support for Sonam Wangchuk's Protest

Actor Aamir Khan and filmmaker Kiran Rao have publicly shown their support for activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently engaged in an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Wangchuk's protest, now in its 20th day, aims to highlight alleged discrepancies in the NEET UG 2026 examination. As concerns about his health grow, numerous Bollywood figures are calling on the government to initiate discussions with the protesters.

Kiran Rao expressed her solidarity with Wangchuk and fellow protesters through an emotional Instagram post, stating, "I stand with Sonam Wangchuk, Abhijit Deepke, the CJP, and all citizens, young and old, advocating for students' rights." She emphasized her admiration for those on hunger strikes, underscoring the significance of every voice in this movement.

Rao also voiced her disappointment over the lack of attention given to the hunger strike, saying, "It is distressing to see the silence surrounding this hunger strike after 19 days. What will it take for those in power to listen? It is shocking and inhumane." She urged the government to engage with the protesters to understand the students' struggles and resolve the situation, asserting that the public deserves to be heard.

In a show of support, Kiran Rao updated her Instagram profile picture to reflect her backing for Wangchuk. She is among several notable figures who have signed an open letter urging the government to engage in dialogue with Wangchuk while also encouraging him to consider ending his fast. The protest has received support from various actors, filmmakers, and digital creators, including Anurag Kashyap, Swara Bhasker, and Shabana Azmi, all advocating for the cause.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk addressed health concerns in a video from the protest site, acknowledging that while his condition has deteriorated, he urged supporters to focus on the broader issue rather than just his fast. He stated, "I am not in great shape, but not too bad either. Instead of asking me to end my fast, please join me on July 20 for a peaceful march to Parliament." Wangchuk continues his hunger strike in support of the CJP protest, which demands accountability regarding the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak and other examination irregularities. As public figures rally behind this cause, attention is now on the government's response to the ongoing protest.
