Aabeer Gulaal: A Refreshing Take on Romance in Cinema
A Unique Love Story
Review By Subhash K Jha: This film stands out in the realm of romantic narratives, offering a unique touch that elevates the viewing experience. Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, Aabeer Gulaal captures the essence of romance with a keen eye for detail.
The film weaves a delicate tapestry of uplifting moments shared between the protagonists, even amidst the hustle of family and friends. Co-written by Bagdi and Meghna Singhee, the screenplay artfully segments the romance, reminiscent of the indigenous charm found in films like 'When Hari Met Sawri.'
References to Bollywood are plentiful, and Vaani Kapoor shines with her dance skills. Their initial meeting in a hotel room unfolds gracefully, akin to the layers of a silk saree, as Gulaal performs Rekha's iconic moves from Umrao Jaan. Interestingly, Aabeer reveals that his favorite song in the film is a soulful solo by Talat Aziz (Zindagi jab bhi tere bazm mein).
This narrative could be likened to an elevated version of Tanu and Manu, yet this couple remains true to themselves, bonded by their shared passions for food, dance, and love.
I appreciated how Fawad's character, Aabeer, consistently comes to Gulaal's rescue in various situations, all narrated in an engaging manner. Meanwhile, her father, portrayed by Parmeet Sethi, anxiously calls from Jaipur, adding to the tension. Even during challenging moments, Aabeer's true feelings are evident, showcasing that these two are destined for one another.
Both Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor deliver outstanding performances, particularly Fawad, whose dialogue delivery is captivating. A simple coffee invitation transforms into something profound, as his words resonate with the nuances of genuine conversation.
Fawad brings Aabeer Singh to life with charm and authenticity, while Vaani complements him beautifully. Their chemistry radiates, enhancing the film's allure. The culinary delights depicted are enticing, and the romance is inviting. Aabeer Gulaal is a film for anyone who has experienced love or wishes to. It promotes positivity and connection.
