PM Modi Accuses TMC of Betraying Women Ahead of West Bengal Elections
Allegations Against TMC
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for allegedly obstructing the passage of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 in Parliament, claiming it betrayed women. He asserted that women would punish the ruling party in the upcoming assembly elections during a rally in Bishnupur, Bankura district.
Accusations of Collaboration
Modi accused the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, of colluding with the Congress to block the bill aimed at providing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, arguing that they are against women's empowerment.
Betrayal of Sisters and Daughters
PM Narendra Modi:
We have witnessed how TMC has betrayed women in Parliament. They conspired with Congress to prevent this bill because they oppose women's empowerment.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the BJP is synonymous with women's empowerment, safety, and respect, which is why women across the country support the party. He lamented that once again, TMC has betrayed the sisters and daughters of West Bengal.
TMC's Stance on Reservation
PM Narendra Modi:
TMC does not want women's empowerment or reservation. Women of West Bengal will punish them for this. TMC breaks every law to benefit infiltrators but opposes women's empowerment.
Modi further claimed that TMC is focused on providing reservations based on religion, undermining the spirit of the Constitution. He promised that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, women would receive up to 1.5 lakh rupees under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme.
Disrespect Towards Tribal Communities
PM Narendra Modi:
The anti-tribal TMC has disrespected President Droupadi Murmu. Both TMC and Congress are against tribal communities, which is why they fielded a candidate against her in the presidential elections.
A Historic Election Ahead
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that this year's elections in West Bengal would be historic, as the public would reject the fear instilled by TMC and grant a mandate to the BJP.
PM Narendra Modi:
I give TMC's goons one last chance to surrender to the police before the elections, as no one will be spared after the results are announced on May 4.
Context of the Bill
These remarks came after the failure to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in Parliament, which aimed to implement 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies based on the 2011 census before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Modi had previously addressed the nation on this issue, criticizing parties like DMK, TMC, and Congress.
