Mamata Banerjee Dismisses Exit Polls Ahead of West Bengal Assembly Elections
Political Turmoil in West Bengal Ahead of Elections
The recent exit poll trends for the West Bengal Assembly elections have stirred significant political activity in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has responded sharply, outright rejecting these figures. She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating the data, claiming that these numbers were fabricated in BJP offices to demoralize Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers.
Mamata Banerjee's Confidence in Election Results
Banerjee expressed her belief that her party would reclaim power when the results are announced on May 4. She urged party workers and supporters to remain vigilant during the counting process and to monitor for any irregularities.
Allegations from Mamata Banerjee
In a video message, Banerjee stated, 'These exit polls are fake. If the real figures were revealed, the stock market would react.' She claimed that the BJP was making a last-ditch effort but emphasized the need for unity among her supporters. She reported that there were raids in her constituency of Bhawanipur throughout the night. The Chief Minister assured that her party would not allow any discrepancies during the counting process and instructed her workers to stay at the counting tables and maintain vigilance throughout the night.
Concerns Over EVM Manipulation
Banerjee also raised concerns regarding the electronic voting machines (EVMs), alleging potential tampering. She mentioned that she would personally oversee the strong room if necessary and would go to the counting hall, a statement that heightened the sensitivity of the electoral atmosphere.
Diverse Exit Poll Predictions
Different agencies have presented varying exit poll predictions for West Bengal, indicating a closely contested election:
