Amit Shah Confident of BJP's Victory in West Bengal Assembly Elections
Voter Enthusiasm for Change in West Bengal
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed that voters showed immense enthusiasm for change during the first phase of the assembly elections. He confidently stated that the BJP would establish a government in the regions of 'Ang, Bang, and Kaling' next month, referring to ancient Indian empires that now encompass Assam, West Bengal, and Odisha.
BJP Set to Achieve Majority
While addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah asserted that the BJP is poised to secure an absolute majority in the assembly elections. He projected that out of the 152 seats contested in the first phase on April 23, the BJP would win over 110 seats. Highlighting a voter turnout exceeding 92%, he remarked, 'The people of Bengal have broken all records in the first phase and voted enthusiastically for change.'
Acknowledgment of Peaceful Voting
Shah expressed gratitude to the Election Commission and security forces for ensuring that there were no fatalities during the first phase of voting. He contrasted this with previous elections, noting that 1,278 individuals were injured in 2016 and 1,681 in 2021. Currently in the state, he claimed that the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, would be ousted, allowing the BJP to form a government with a clear majority.
Reasons for BJP's Anticipated Success
He stated, 'After May 5, we will govern in Ang, Bang, and Kaling.' The BJP had previously come to power in Odisha in 2024 and is now aiming for a third consecutive term in Assam while attempting to displace the 15-year-old Trinamool government in West Bengal.
Commitment to Local Leadership and Safety
Amit Shah assured that if the BJP comes to power in Bengal, the Chief Minister would be someone who resides in Bengal and speaks Bengali. He emphasized that the BJP would prioritize women's safety and work to eliminate 'bhai-po' and 'syndicate raj' in the state, while also welcoming investors.
