Voting Underway in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Assembly Elections
Current Voting Status
Voting is currently taking place across all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and the initial phase of 152 assembly seats in West Bengal. A total of 5.7 crore voters are expected to participate in the Tamil Nadu elections, while 1,478 candidates are contesting for the 152 assembly seats spread across 16 districts in West Bengal. Approximately 3.6 crore voters are ready to cast their votes in this first phase. Notably, many individuals who voted in the previous elections find their names missing from the voter list this time due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Political Landscape
In Tamil Nadu, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is facing off against the opposition alliance of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Attention is also on the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam party led by actor Thalapathy Vijay, who has transitioned from the film industry to politics. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the primary contest is perceived to be between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress.
