Violence Erupts in Nawda, Murshidabad

Significant unrest has erupted in the Nawda constituency of Murshidabad district, West Bengal. Following a bombing incident, Humayun Kabir finds himself surrounded by tensions, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) rallying against him. The Election Commission has requested a report from district officials regarding the situation. TMC leaders have accused Kabir of receiving open threats and stated that he will not be allowed to move freely in the area. Allegations from TMC activists suggest that Kabir is associating with individuals who have multiple FIRs filed against them. In response, Kabir has accused local police of bias and is demanding the appointment of new officials.

Confrontations and Clashes

Images that have surfaced show that Kabir's supporters from the Awami Janata Udyog Party (AJUP) and TMC activists are armed with sticks, leading to violent confrontations in various locations. Reports indicate that stones were thrown at vehicles in Kabir's convoy, and other cars were also attacked with sticks. Earlier on Wednesday night, there were reports of bombs being detonated in certain areas. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported due to the use of crude explosives, but the atmosphere in Murshidabad remains tense. Police officials have stated that they are working to control the situation.

TMC Leader's Open Threat

Sofiujaaman Sheikh, the TMC block president in Nawda, claimed, 'Humayun Kabir is attempting to incite chaos. On election day, he arrived with 15 vehicles accompanied by anti-social elements and criminals, many of whom have pending FIRs against them. They attempted to intimidate our polling agents. Upon receiving this information, we arrived here. Kabir is engaging in hooliganism, and despite our complaints, there has been no action from the Election Commission or the police.'

He further stated, 'No one has been detained or arrested. The same individuals we filed FIRs against are still seen with Kabir. We will not allow him to roam freely in Nawda. This is a direct threat to him. If he continues to move around, we will stop him. There was a peaceful voting process here until he arrived and caused a disturbance.'

Humayun Kabir's Response

In response to the accusations, Humayun Kabir labeled the TMC as a party of thieves, asserting that the people of Nawda have rejected them. He also claimed, 'The Nawda police have acted against our supporters throughout the night, using batons and invading homes. This should not happen. The Election Commission must take action against them. They should be removed from the police station and replaced with new officers. I will remain here. The TMC is engaging in thuggery, and action should be taken against them.'

It is noteworthy that Humayun Kabir is contesting in the upcoming assembly elections from the Nawda constituency.
