Guwahati, May 8: On Friday, a large group of individuals aspiring for teaching positions gathered in Patna to voice their concerns regarding the delay in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0. They demanded immediate updates on the recruitment process for over 46,000 teaching roles.

The demonstrators, many of whom have dedicated months to preparing for the exam, initiated their march from Patna College, heading towards Dak Bungalow Chowraha while chanting slogans against the perceived inaction of the authorities.

However, their march was halted by police near Gandhi Maidan as they attempted to bypass barricades set up in the area.

Officials reported that mild force was employed to disperse the crowd after some protestors allegedly tried to breach the barricades. SP (Central) Diksha confirmed this to reporters.

Despite this, several candidates accused the police of using excessive force during the protest. Social media was flooded with videos and images depicting chaotic scenes and confrontations between protestors and law enforcement, amplifying criticism regarding the management of the situation.

The BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0, which aims to fill more than 46,000 teaching vacancies statewide, was anticipated to be announced in April 2026.

The ongoing delay has led to growing frustration among candidates, many of whom expressed concerns about the uncertainty surrounding their future careers.

Dilip Kumar, a student leader who spearheaded the protest, claimed that previous commitments made by former education minister Sunil Kumar had not been fulfilled.

“Candidates have been repeatedly assured that the notification would be released soon, but nothing concrete has happened so far. Thousands of aspirants are waiting anxiously,” Kumar stated during the protest.

In response to the rising discontent, newly appointed Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari sought to reassure candidates, promising that all pending recruitment processes, including BPSC TRE-4, would be finalized shortly.

“There will be no more pending recruitments. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, I will work to ensure that the education sector becomes a strong foundation for Bihar’s overall development,” Tiwari remarked after taking office earlier in the day.

He also acknowledged former chief minister Nitish Kumar for the advancements made in Bihar’s education sector and expressed the new government's commitment to furthering those efforts.

“Former chief minister Nitish Kumar ensured remarkable progress in the education sector, and the new government will build on that,” he added.
