Guwahati, Oct 3: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Assam in December 2026 or January 2027 to officially launch the highly anticipated Tata semiconductor project located in Jagiroad.
During an election campaign event in Deosal, Sarma highlighted that this visit would signify a significant achievement for the project.
“The Prime Minister will be in Jagiroad in December or January 2027 to inaugurate the project,” Sarma stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the semiconductor facility, which is currently under construction, is touted to be the largest in both Northeast and eastern India, and aims to be the “largest factory in the world.”
“The semiconductor facility in Jagiroad will be the largest globally. Chips of this magnitude have never been produced before,” he remarked.
Once fully operational, the facility is projected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily, as per details shared by the Union government and the company involved.
Sarma noted that the semiconductor initiative has already placed Jagiroad on the international stage, paving the way for new industrial opportunities and economic advancement.
“Jagiroad has gained global recognition due to the semiconductor project and its potential for growth and development,” he added.
He further mentioned that Assam is progressing towards rapid development, asserting that projects and infrastructure that were once deemed challenging are now being expedited through efficient decision-making.
Referring to the approval of four bridges in Jagiroad, Sarma explained that these were sanctioned following a request from local MLA Pijush Hazarika during a phone call.
“I have approved the construction of four bridges in Jagiroad at the request of MLA Pijush Hazarika over a phone call. In the past 15 years, no Chief Minister in Assam has sanctioned a bridge through a phone call,” Sarma noted.
In relation to the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, Sarma urged Congress supporters to back BJP candidate Devasish Sharma, emphasizing that while the bypoll would not alter the government, it would empower the BJP to better serve the populace.
“In the forthcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Nagaon, we need to reduce Congress's votes to 10,000 and diminish their presence,” Sarma stated.
Additionally, he revealed plans to establish four to five women-led markets in Jagiroad with government support, aimed at providing women a platform to sell their products and goods.
“Manipur has women-led markets known as Ima markets. Similarly, we aspire to create markets for women entrepreneurs in Assam,” he expressed.
Sarma concluded by stating that BJP candidate Devasish Sharma and Jagiroad MLA Pijush Hazarika would collaborate to further the development of the region.
