Dr Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty

Agartala, July 18: In preparation for the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the government has appointed Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, a retired IAS officer, as the new State Election Commissioner effective immediately.

Dr. Chakraborty, who previously served as Secretary to the Chief Minister after his retirement, takes over from Manoj Kumar, the former Chief Secretary who held the position since November 16, 2025.

With extensive experience in various significant roles within the Tripura Government, Chakraborty's appointment is timely as the State Election Commission gears up for the important TTAADC Village Committee elections.

In light of this new appointment, the State Government has reallocated Chakraborty’s previous departmental duties. Kiran Gitte, another IAS officer, has been designated as Secretary to the Chief Minister and will also oversee the Information and Cultural Affairs department. Meanwhile, Tapas Ray has been entrusted with the Education (Youth Affairs and Sports) department, and Chief Secretary JK Sinha will maintain oversight of the General Administration (Confidential and Cabinet) Department.

Chakraborty’s new role is particularly significant as the State Election Commission will oversee the TTAADC Village Committee elections, which are anticipated to be a major local electoral event in the state.
