Aizawl, June 29: In a recent update, Mizoram has seen the removal of over 46,000 names from its electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), as confirmed by a senior official.

The revision process, which commenced on May 20, wrapped up on Sunday, with all enumeration forms now fully digitized, according to Mizoram's Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Ethel Rothangpuii.

A total of 46,191 individuals were taken off the electoral list for various reasons, including death, inability to trace, permanent relocation, and duplicate registrations, she explained.

Among those removed, 21,290 were deceased, 8,352 could not be located, 13,992 had moved to other states or countries, and 2,245 were identified as having duplicate entries.

Rothangpuii also noted that 312 eligible voters chose not to enroll or re-enroll during this period due to their religious beliefs. These individuals were either part of the 2025 electoral rolls or had relatives who were registered in the previous SIR.

After the revision, the total electorate in Mizoram now stands at 828,877, which is 94.72% of the more than 875,000 voters listed in the 2025 electoral rolls, the official stated.

The draft electoral rolls are set to be published on July 4, allowing electors to submit claims and objections from July 5 to August 4.

This revision comes in response to calls from the MZP for a comprehensive verification of electoral rolls in the Chakma-dominated regions of southern Mizoram.
