Voting in Phase Two of West Bengal Assembly Elections
The first phase of voting for 152 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections witnessed an impressive turnout. Today, the second phase is taking place across 142 assembly seats, with extensive security measures in place. Voting will occur at a total of 41,001 booths. Approximately 230,000 central security personnel, over 38,000 state police officers, and 95 police observers have been deployed to ensure a peaceful election process. The constituencies where voting is happening today are considered strongholds of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which secured 123 out of the 142 seats in the previous election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only 18 seats. Notably, voting is also taking place in the Bhawanipur constituency, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting again. The BJP has fielded Suvendu Adhikari against her once more.
