Silchar, April 8: In preparation for the Assembly elections scheduled for Thursday, the Cachar district administration has implemented a comprehensive security strategy, enhancing the protection of inter-state borders with a multi-layered approach, particularly focusing on vulnerable areas to ensure smooth polling.

District Commissioner Aayush Garg stated that border regions adjacent to neighboring states, especially Manipur, are under increased surveillance with additional forces deployed.

“The inter-state border areas are crucial for security. We have increased our force presence and monitoring efforts to prevent any illegal activities or disruptions during the elections,” he informed the press.

As part of the bolstered security framework, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) alongside state police have been strategically stationed at sensitive border points. Numerous polling stations in these regions are under armed protection and constant surveillance.

Security protocols have been further enhanced through rigorous naka checking, area domination operations, and ongoing patrols along vital entry and exit routes to prevent any cross-border movement of criminals or illegal goods.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Sanjib Saikia emphasized that security measures have been made “foolproof” throughout the district.

“Our security coverage is extensive. Deployments have been executed based on thorough assessments, particularly in critical polling stations and sensitive locales. Currently, there are no specific threats,” he stated.

He also mentioned that coordination with neighboring states, including Manipur, is established to address any needs. “The Manipur Police have pledged their cooperation and support to prevent any incidents during the election process,” he added.

Rapid response teams and striking forces are also on standby to react promptly to any emergencies, while sectoral and zonal officers are closely monitoring vulnerable areas.

The administration has identified 95 polling stations as “critical” based on detailed vulnerability assessments. Out of these, 35 booths were marked due to exceptionally high voter turnout exceeding 90 percent and unusual voting patterns, while 60 others were classified as sensitive based on police and intelligence reports.

All identified locations will experience heightened surveillance and security measures, Saikia reiterated.
