Kolkata, Oct 28: Hasirani Rath and Sakharav Sarkar, the recently elected representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, are set to take their oaths on Wednesday.

The oath-taking ceremony will be led by the Speaker of the House, Rathindra Bose, at the state Assembly. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to attend the event before heading to the Nabanna secretariat for a cabinet meeting.

The bypolls for Nandigram and Rejinagar took place on October 6, with results announced on October 9. The BJP's success in both constituencies has boosted its representation in the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly to 209.

Hasirani Rath won in Nandigram with an impressive margin of 122,753 votes, while Sarkar secured victory in Rejinagar by 75,816 votes. Sarkar's significant win surprised many analysts, given that over 65% of Rejinagar's voters belong to minority communities.

Despite this, the Chief Minister asserted that the outcomes in Nandigram and Rejinagar indicate a growing trust among minority voters in the BJP, attributed to the developmental initiatives undertaken in the initial months of the BJP-led government.

He further noted that minority voters in West Bengal are beginning to recognize that previous administrations misled them by portraying the BJP as a communal entity rather than focusing on the overall advancement of the minority population.

Additionally, a notable number of women voters from the minority community, who benefited from the Annapurna Yojana scheme, reportedly supported the BJP in the recent bypolls alongside their families.

Rath is the mother of the late Chandranath Rath, who served as an executive assistant to Suvendu Adhikari and was tragically shot in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, on May 6.
