Current Election Status in Assam

Guwahati, May 4: Recent data from the Election Commission indicates that prominent opposition figures in Assam, such as Debabrata Saikia, Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Jagadish Bhuyan, and Rajen Gohain, are currently trailing in their respective electoral contests.

In the Nazira constituency of Sivasagar district, Congress leader Saikia is behind by 4,967 votes, with BJP's Mayur Borgohain leading with 11,607 votes after the second round, while Saikia has garnered only 6,640 votes.

Akhil Gogoi, the president of Raijor Dal and an MLA, is attempting to retain his Sibsagar seat but is trailing after the first round, having received 3,262 votes compared to BJP's Kushal Dowari, who has 5,171 votes.

According to the Election Commission, AGP's Prodip Hazarika, an NDA ally, has managed to secure 443 votes in Sibsagar after the initial round.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi, president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), is also falling behind his BJP opponent. Gogoi has accumulated 11,845 votes over three rounds, while BJP's Chakradhar Gogoi leads with 14,360 votes.

In Sadiya, AJP's general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan is trailing by 5,759 votes after the second round, having received 5,071 votes against BJP's Bolin Chetia, who has 10,830 votes.

Former Union Minister Rajen Gohain, who switched to AJP before the elections, is also behind BJP MLA Jitu Goswami, with Gohain securing 2,570 votes compared to Goswami's 5,324.

Conversely, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is leading in the Binnakandi constituency of Hojai district, with a margin of 2,869 votes over AJP's Rejaul Karim Chowdhury after three rounds. Ajmal has received 13,298 votes, while Chowdhury has 10,429 votes. AGP's Shahab Uddin Majumdar has obtained 2,537 votes in Binnakandi, as per the Election Commission data.
