Guwahati, May 4: The initial results from the ongoing vote counting in Assam suggest a robust performance by the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Party officials are optimistic about securing a third consecutive term in office.

Disregarding concerns regarding anti-incumbency and the opposition's chances, BJP representatives assert that the early leads signify public support for the government's development initiatives.

At a counting center in Morigaon, BJP leader Pijush Hazarika expressed confidence that the party is on track to retain power. He credited the early success to the efforts of the 'double-engine' government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"The results are starting to reflect the diligent work of the government, which has tirelessly served the people. The BJP will continue to govern," Hazarika stated.

He noted that in the initial rounds of counting, BJP candidates are leading by considerable margins in both the Morigaon and Jagiroad Assembly constituencies.

Similarly, BJP candidate Pradyut Bordoloi from the Dispur Assembly constituency expressed confidence in the party's return to power statewide. He remarked, "There is a palpable sentiment across Assam that the BJP will secure a third term. We are attentively observing feedback from all regions of the state."

Bordoloi also mentioned that the counting process can be complex due to the multi-cornered nature of elections, requiring patience as trends develop over time.

The counting of votes commenced at 8 am across Assam, encompassing 126 Assembly constituencies with 722 candidates competing. This process is taking place at 40 counting centers spread across 35 districts, with candidates, observers, and supporters closely monitoring the situation.

As counting continues, further trends and official results from the Election Commission of India are anticipated.
