North Lakhimpur, Nov 6: On Friday, the district administration of Lakhimpur executed a significant eviction operation in Bihpuria, targeting a weekly market and various unauthorized constructions on government property, resulting in the clearance of approximately three bighas of land.
The operation took place at the Dharmapur Saturday weekly haat, where a demolition team, equipped with bulldozers and accompanied by officials from the Bihpuria Revenue Circle along with security personnel, initiated the removal of encroachments early in the morning.
During this operation, a total of 32 shops within the weekly market and one residential structure were demolished to reclaim government land.
This eviction at Dharmapur was part of a coordinated effort involving four simultaneous operations across the Lakhimpur district.
Similar actions were also carried out at Balijan and Koilamari under the North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, Bogeenadi under the Kadam Revenue Circle, and No. 1 Dharmapur under the Bihpuria Revenue Circle.
Officials indicated that the occupants of the market and other residents had been informed by the district revenue department prior to the operation. As a result of these notifications, many occupants voluntarily dismantled their unauthorized structures, which aided in the smooth execution of the eviction.
In a statement to the media at the site, Bihpuria Revenue Circle Officer Namita Bora noted that around three bighas of government land had been successfully cleared of unauthorized occupations and constructions.
"The eviction operation is proceeding without any issues. We have received excellent cooperation from local residents. Prior discussions and notifications were conducted with the affected individuals, which is why we have not encountered any challenges during the operation," Bora stated.
