BJP Advocates for Uniform Civil Code Implementation in Assam

GUWAHATI, May 11: The Assam BJP State Committee has expressed its support for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within the state.
Dilip Saikia, the president of the BJP's Assam unit, stated in an interview that the party has consistently advocated for the UCC. He mentioned that following their anticipated third term in office, discussions regarding this matter would be held with partners in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to reach a consensus.
Regarding the expectations from the NDA government, which is set to assume power on May 12, Saikia emphasized the need for urgent measures to alleviate the challenges posed by Bangladeshi nationals and to accelerate the deportation of illegal migrants. He also called for a swift eviction process from forests and other government lands.
Saikia proposed that a comprehensive survey of Assam's char areas be conducted, with land pattas granted to the indigenous population residing there.
He expressed optimism that the government would effectively address the issues faced by various ethnic groups.
Saikia noted that the Chief Minister has announced plans to establish medical colleges in every district, hoping this initiative will soon enhance healthcare access for all communities.
Criticizing opposition parties, Saikia claimed they have consistently opposed NDA development initiatives. He pointed out that Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Congress State unit, supported individuals against the semiconductor project in Assam. He highlighted that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's son, a minister in Karnataka, also opposed the semiconductor unit, with Gogoi backing him.
Saikia further criticized the Congress party, suggesting it has transformed into a 'Muslim League,' noting that out of the 19 seats won in the Assembly elections, only one was secured by a Hindu candidate.
Despite Gaurav Gogoi being a Lok Sabha member from Jorhat, Saikia remarked that Congress failed to win any Assembly seats in that parliamentary constituency this time.
He attributed the BJP's significant electoral victory to pro-poor initiatives, transparent appointments, infrastructure advancements, and an improved law and order situation.
