Market Influencers This Week

New Delhi: Analysts indicate that the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) interest rate decisions, earnings reports from TCS, fluctuations in crude oil prices, and global bond yields will significantly influence stock market trends this week.

They also noted that macroeconomic data releases and the trading activities of foreign investors will play a crucial role in shaping market dynamics.

"The upcoming RBI monetary policy meeting is expected to attract considerable attention. Insights regarding the policy stance, inflation forecasts, and growth projections will be vital for understanding the short-term direction of domestic interest rates and financial markets," stated Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking.

This week marks the onset of the earnings season, with major players like TCS and retail giant DMart set to release their financial results, Mishra added.

On the data front, the final readings for India's HSBC Services PMI and Composite PMI for September are due on October 6.

TCS is anticipated to disclose its earnings for the September quarter on October 8.

"Crude oil prices remain a pressing macroeconomic issue. With Brent crude trading above USD 100 per barrel, the pressure on India's external balances and inflation outlook is intensifying. Ongoing geopolitical uncertainties are likely to keep energy prices elevated," remarked Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, a trading and wealth technology firm.

Global bond yields will also be a key factor influencing risk appetite, he noted.

"A decrease in US Treasury yields could alleviate pressure on emerging-market assets, fostering a more favorable environment for foreign investments. Conversely, a rise in yields may enhance the attractiveness of US assets, prompting a shift away from emerging markets," Ponmudi explained.

Indian equities have faced declines for eight consecutive weeks, impacted by foreign selling, a weakening rupee, high crude prices, and rising global bond yields.

Last week, the Sensex dropped by 1,986.04 points (2.68%), while the Nifty fell by 718.55 points (3.10%). In September, the BSE benchmark lost 4,476.98 points (5.81%), and the Nifty decreased by 1,459.95 points (6%).

"The RBI's policy decision will serve as the primary domestic catalyst. Following that, the minutes from the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will provide insights into the level of support among US policymakers for further monetary tightening beyond the September rate hike," stated Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder and CEO of HST Wealth, a research analysis firm.
