What to Expect from JSW's Ambitious Steel Plant Project in Odisha by 2029?
Major Steel Plant Construction Begins in Odisha
Bhubaneswar/Paradip: On Wednesday, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed confidence that the integrated steel plant by JSW, valued at ₹65,000 crore, will commence operations by 2029, marking a significant step in the state's industrial development.
The Chief Minister was present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 13.2 MTPA integrated steel facility of JSW Utkal Steel Limited, located in Dhinkia, near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
This site was previously earmarked for a 12 MTPA steel project by South Korean giant POSCO in 2005, which was ultimately abandoned due to local opposition and issues related to raw material sourcing.
Majhi stated, "We are hopeful that the steel plant will be inaugurated in 2029, setting a benchmark in Odisha's industrial journey," while addressing attendees.
The planned integrated steel plant is set to have an initial production capacity of 13.2 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA), with the initial investment pegged at ₹65,000 crore, potentially rising to ₹1,00,000 crore in subsequent phases.
The project will also include a 900 MW captive power plant, a specialized cement grinding unit, and a dedicated jetty at Paradip Port to facilitate efficient shipping.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister's Office noted, "Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri @MohanMOdisha attended the event marking the commencement of construction work for the 13.2 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant of JSW Utkal Steel Limited at Dhinkia near Paradip.
