Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Advocates for Enhanced Tax Collection and Trader Support
Strengthening Revenue Collection in Uttar Pradesh
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has urged the state tax department to bolster its revenue collection initiatives while ensuring that honest traders receive improved services, quicker resolution of grievances, and respectful interactions with officials. He emphasized that the State Tax Department is crucial for Uttar Pradesh to reach its ambitious goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy. Adityanath pointed out that economic advancement should be supported by a governance model that harmonizes increased tax revenues with trust and transparency for businesses.
During a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials from both the headquarters and field units of the State Tax Department, the chief minister called for a more transparent, technology-driven, and accountable taxation framework. He insisted that traders should not encounter unnecessary obstacles in processes related to GST registration, return filing, appeals, or refund settlements. Adityanath also underscored the necessity of minimizing delays and simplifying compliance procedures to enhance the business environment in the state.
He stated that the department must guarantee prompt support and services for genuine taxpayers. Furthermore, the chief minister highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing digital tools and data analytics. According to him, technology should not only help reduce tax evasion but also promote lawful business activities across various sectors.
In addition, the government plans to boost engagement with traders and small business owners through awareness campaigns and support programs at district and block levels. Officials reported that outreach initiatives for traders have already been conducted in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, focusing on GST registration, return filing processes, and awareness of GST 2.0 reforms. Training workshops have also been organized to assist traders in understanding return filing procedures more effectively. Moreover, "Vyapar Bandhu" meetings have been held in several districts to enhance communication between businesses and the administration. The State Tax Department has developed a roadmap to initiate outreach programs at the block level starting in June 2026.
