UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Document Update Service Until 2027
Extended Free Update Service for Aadhaar Holders
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension for Aadhaar holders, allowing them to update their documents online without incurring any fees. This initiative has been prolonged for an additional year, providing significant relief to millions of users nationwide. Initially, the complimentary update service was set to conclude on June 16, 2026, but it will now be available until June 14, 2027. Users can continue to upload and modify their supporting documents at no cost via the myAadhaar portal.
UIDAI stated, “It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost till June 14, 2027.” This extension aims to assist Aadhaar users in keeping their identity records accurate and up-to-date in the central database. UIDAI has consistently urged individuals, particularly those who registered for Aadhaar years ago, to refresh their identity and address documentation.
Free Online Document Updates for Aadhaar Users
The complimentary service is exclusively available for online updates conducted through the myAadhaar portal. Aadhaar holders can digitally upload their identity and address proofs without needing to visit a physical enrolment center in many instances. However, certain changes still necessitate in-person verification. Updates to biometrics such as fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs cannot be processed online. Additionally, modifications related to mobile numbers, gender, name, and date of birth still require a visit to an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
Users are also advised to ensure that the files they upload do not exceed 2 MB and are in accepted formats like JPEG, PNG, or PDF.
Phasing Out of mAadhaar App
In a related update, UIDAI has revealed plans to retire the current mAadhaar application soon. Aadhaar holders are encouraged to transition to the newly launched Aadhaar app, which features enhanced functionalities and a more user-friendly experience. The new app includes QR-based Aadhaar sharing, improved privacy measures, and easier access to Aadhaar-related services. This information was shared through an update on X, previously known as Twitter.
