TruAlt Bioenergy's Major Step Towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Bengaluru, June 18, 2026: TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, recognized as India's foremost ethanol producer and a prominent player in the biofuels sector, has announced the receipt of ₹150 crore in financial backing under the PM JI-VAN Yojana (Jaiv Indhan–Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran) from the Government of India. This funding is designated for their upcoming commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiative located in Bagalkot, Karnataka. The Centre for High Technology (CHT), part of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), has granted this approval, marking a pivotal advancement in TruAlt's efforts to expand into advanced biofuels and sustainable aviation solutions.

The sanctioned ₹150 crore is anticipated to cover around 7–10% of the total capital expenditure for the project, thereby bolstering its feasibility and facilitating the swift development of domestic SAF production capabilities in India. The PM JI-VAN Yojana is a key initiative by the Indian government aimed at promoting the commercialization of advanced biofuels. By providing targeted financial support, this scheme encourages technological advancements, the use of renewable feedstocks, and the development of local low-carbon fuel technologies, all of which contribute to India's goals of energy security, rural development, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

The planned SAF facility aims to produce 10 crore litres annually and is expected to significantly contribute to India's energy transition and aviation decarbonization efforts. This project will help establish a domestic SAF ecosystem, enhance local production of low-carbon aviation fuels, decrease reliance on imported fossil fuels, and support India's long-term net-zero targets. Furthermore, the facility aligns with the global aviation industry's decarbonization strategies under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and India's SAF blending targets of 1% by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030.

As the global demand for sustainable aviation fuels rises, this initiative is poised to position India as a competitive SAF producer, thereby enhancing energy security and fostering the growth of a low-carbon aviation sector. Mr. Vijay Nirani, Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, remarked on this development, stating, "This achievement signifies much more than just the establishment of a new facility. As the world moves towards aviation decarbonization, Sustainable Aviation Fuel will become a crucial component of the future energy framework. At TruAlt, we are dedicated to creating globally competitive, indigenous solutions that bolster India's energy security while promoting climate objectives. We appreciate the Government of India's ongoing support in nurturing innovation and facilitating the commercialization of next-generation biofuels. Together, we can position India as a global leader in sustainable fuels and clean energy technologies."

The SAF project is in line with India's increasing emphasis on sustainable aviation and meets both global and domestic SAF blending requirements. Utilizing TruAlt's vast expertise in large-scale biofuel production, feedstock management, and renewable energy operations, this project is expected to significantly contribute to the establishment of a domestic SAF value chain. The financial assistance will be disbursed based on project milestones and the terms outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement with the Centre for High Technology. As the largest ethanol producer in India, with an ethanol production capacity of 2,000 KLPD and integrated operations throughout the biofuels value chain, TruAlt is continuously expanding its offerings in ethanol, compressed biogas (CBG), sustainable aviation fuel, and other future fuels.
