Tripura Government Announces 5% Increase in Dearness Allowance for Employees

Significant DA Hike for State Employees

On Monday, Chief Minister Manik Saha of Tripura announced a 5% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, raising the total DA to 41%. This announcement came shortly after Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy concluded his budget presentation. The new DA rate will take effect from April 1 for both government employees and pensioners.

According to the chief minister, this adjustment will benefit 102,563 regular employees and 81,019 pensioners. He noted that the government will allocate an additional Rs 500 crore annually to support this 5% increase, emphasizing their ongoing efforts to align state employee benefits more closely with those of their central government counterparts, who currently receive a DA of 58%.

However, the announcement faced criticism from senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, who expressed concerns about the timing of the announcement, suggesting it should have been included in the finance minister's budget speech. In response, Pranajit Singha Roy indicated that approximately Rs 15,000 crore would be allocated for salaries and pensions from a total budget of Rs 34,212.31 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27.
