What motivated the creation of Organic Maa in 2022, and how has the brand progressed since its inception? Organic Maa emerged from a personal journey following the loss of my mother to cancer in 2022, which transformed my views on health and food quality. The brand was established as a tribute to her, embodying care, purity, and wellness, inspired by a mother’s nurturing spirit. Our goal is to provide high-quality, affordable products for health-conscious individuals while promoting women’s empowerment and rural development, enabling women to grow, participate, and achieve financial independence, thus contributing to inclusive economic growth.
How do you maintain authenticity and quality control for your organic spices and dry fruits? Are there plans for new product categories? Authenticity and quality control are the cornerstones of Organic Maa. We meticulously source our raw materials from reliable suppliers and oversee every step—from procurement and cleaning to grading, packaging, and storage—to guarantee purity, freshness, and nutritional integrity. Looking ahead, we aim to broaden our product range to include healthy daily essentials, natural food items, value-added grocery products, and wellness-oriented household goods.
What strategies have fueled your rapid retail growth in Bhubaneswar and other cities in Odisha? Are there any upcoming expansion plans? Our primary strategy revolves around offering high-quality products at reasonable prices, which fosters consistent demand and builds strong customer loyalty. This approach has enabled Organic Maa to gain significant traction across Odisha, with a presence in 50 stores in Bhubaneswar and 25 through Reliance Retail. We have also ventured into e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and JioMart, with plans to partner with Blinkit and BigBasket soon to enhance our quick-commerce capabilities.
What consumer trends are you noticing in the organic and healthy snacks market? In the organic and healthy snacks sector, consumers are increasingly discerning about ingredient quality, authenticity, and health benefits. There is a noticeable shift towards preservative-free, clean-label products made from natural ingredients that are affordable for everyday use. Demand for eco-friendly packaging and convenient, healthy options is also rising, particularly among younger consumers and urban families. Additionally, traditional Indian ingredients such as millets, dry fruits, seeds, and roasted snacks are becoming more popular as consumers seek nutritious products that offer health benefits while retaining familiar flavors.
What challenges does the organic retail industry currently face, and how is Organic Maa tackling them? A significant challenge in the organic retail sector is the perception that organic products are always costly. Another hurdle is the lack of awareness regarding the differences between regular and high-quality organic products. To combat this, Organic Maa emphasizes consumer education and product assurance. We train our staff to articulate quality distinctions, highlight ingredient purity and health benefits, and provide product comparisons. Simultaneously, we maintain competitive pricing and ensure consistent quality to foster long-term customer trust.
As an entrepreneur, what inspired you to enter this industry, and what advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs? My entry into this business was influenced by family values and personal experiences. Coming from a third-generation business family, I gained early insights into customer behavior and trust. My retail experience further deepened my understanding of genuine customer needs. A pivotal moment occurred after my mother’s passing in 2022, which motivated me to establish Organic Maa as a tribute, focusing on quality and affordable health products. My advice to budding entrepreneurs is to understand customer needs, prioritize quality, build trust, maintain practical pricing, train teams effectively, and remain patient, as enduring success stems from consistently solving real problems.
