Embracing AI for Future Growth

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's leading IT services provider, is urging its workforce to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) without hesitation, even if it disrupts established revenue models. The company's leadership is confident that proactively adopting AI will create new opportunities for both employees and clients. K Krithivasan, the CEO and managing director of TCS, stated, “We are not concerned that this technology will threaten our jobs. Instead, we see it as a means to unlock more opportunities, encouraging employees to benefit from change rather than resist it.” During his address at the 34th Nasscom Technology Leadership Forum in Mumbai, he encouraged employees, known internally as associates, to propose AI-driven solutions to clients, even if it means competing with existing services.

Fostering AI Skills Across All Levels

TCS aspires to be the leading AI-driven technology services firm globally, a vision that necessitates a high level of AI proficiency throughout the organization. Krithivasan emphasized the importance of allowing employees to experiment with AI technologies. He remarked, “We are focused on building AI fluency and ensuring our associates are comfortable with this technology. All associates are provided ample access to explore and engage with AI.” He also highlighted the need for senior management to set a positive example, stating, “It’s crucial to train senior leaders effectively. We observe that junior associates are often more adept with technology, while senior staff may lack hands-on experience. We are insisting that every senior leader must engage in practical AI projects.”

Motivating Employees to Learn AI

When questioned about incentivizing employees to adopt AI, Krithivasan noted that formal rewards are not essential. He explained, “We don’t need to incentivize learning because there is a natural desire to understand this technology. Our role is to provide ample learning opportunities and encourage associates to prioritize AI solutions for clients, even if it means disrupting current delivery methods. We are guiding them to remain relevant in this evolving landscape.”
